Keeping the composition simple is best, but more importantly is the story.
Coffee with a book? a newspaper? No, a "mobile device"? A CROISSANT! Coffee in the sunshine is always good. Of course, anything in the sunshine in Seattle is always good. The Seattle sun: rare indeed when it comes out; but man, when it does... |
Starbucks ideas and thoughts:
Paintings with coffee ! (of course)... Situational, like "Ready for the day" to the left. Hmmm. Now that it's drawn, it would definitely be better painted (and in color) to really get the light. Of course all this is talking to myself.
Working with ad/marketing folks will improve design, content, focus, story, etc., through connection and communication. Whether or not any of these ideas are feasible, my desire is that these will spark more, and better ideas for collaboration. Please check out the rest of my work on this website, still under construction, for more inspiration. Thank you. |
I see Starbucks "scenery" mostly as what the effect of light is...and it will be different in each store, and at particular times of day. Of course, Mr. Sun will need to cooperate... While plein air studies would be good, working from photos will be likely. Leaving out facial likeness details, while keeping the gestures in the light, will be a focus, as well as avoiding the need for model releases. I really love the compelling backlighting I see when in most Starbucks. See below.

Art prints probably ought to be small and of sizes readily suitable for standard, inexpensive frames (4x6, 5x7, 8x10).
Besides a powerful composition and story, to have a compelling cause to which proceeds may go would be the draw. |
Regarding Causes:
Being an artist, my own personal cause is getting out of my comfort zone and acting toward being seen, and that comes with collaborations. Regarding causes for which customers would support in buying art prints, I would prefer they be causes that are not in the news. My own preference would be toward educational establishments like FEE.org or Mises.org, which educate folks on sound economics, the ideas of which can bring real meaningful change in human actions toward their desired ends. In light of news of Mr. Schultz looking toward the presidency, the time is even more critical in shedding light upon sound economics. |
